Epithalon

10mg

Epithalon (epitalon, epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) based on the natural peptide epithalamin, which is produced by the pineal gland. Developed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, epithalon is the most extensively studied member of the Khavinson peptide bioregulator family. Research has focused on its telomerase-activating properties and potential role in cellular senescence modulation.

Mechanism of Action

Epithalon activates telomerase, the ribonucleoprotein enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length during cell division. By upregulating the catalytic subunit hTERT (human telomerase reverse transcriptase), epithalon may counteract the progressive telomere shortening associated with replicative senescence. Additionally, research suggests epithalon modulates pineal gland function, normalizing circadian melatonin secretion patterns in aging models and potentially influencing antioxidant enzyme expression (SOD, glutathione peroxidase).
