Mechanism of Action

As a Semax analog, it is studied for the parent peptide's mechanisms: upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor (NGF), and TrkB receptor expression in hippocampal and cortical tissue, and modulation of the melanocortin system via MC4R. The N-terminal acetyl and C-terminal amide groups cap the peptide termini, a common strategy to slow exopeptidase cleavage; comparative stability versus unmodified Semax is itself a research endpoint.
