Mechanism of Action

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Lau et al. (2015) characterized receptor affinity and albumin binding while optimizing acylated GLP-1 analogs. Semaglutide contains Aib8 and Arg34 substitutions and a Lys26-linked substituent; the study reported increased albumin affinity relative to liraglutide.
