01

Identity & nomenclature

Degarelix is a synthetic linear decapeptide with an acetylated N terminus, an amidated C terminus and explicitly configured nonstandard residues. This record describes the parent without acetate or hydrate components.

Degarelixum is the issued Latin name. The parent identifiers exclude the distinct acetate and hydrated acetate registry representations. No fixed acetate or water stoichiometry is assigned to all preparations bearing a salt-qualified name.

Declared aliases and development codes: Degarelixum.

Three-letter sequenceD-2Nal–D-4Cpa–D-3Pal–Ser–4Aph(L-Hor)–D-4Aph(Cbm)–Leu–Lys(iPr)–Pro–D-Ala
Terminal groupsN-terminal acetylation; C-terminal amide

D-2Nal is D-3-(naphthalen-2-yl)alanine; D-4Cpa is D-4-chlorophenylalanine; D-3Pal is D-3-(pyridin-3-yl)alanine. 4Aph(L-Hor) is L-4-aminophenylalanine with its para amino group acylated by L-hydroorotic acid, whose additional stereocentre is 4S. D-4Aph(Cbm) is D-4-aminophenylalanine with a para carbamoylated amino group. Lys(iPr) is N6-isopropyl-L-lysine. Positions 1, 2, 3, 6 and 10 are D; positions 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9 are L. Each token is one residue; no one-letter string is supplied.

03

Structural characteristics

Takahashi, Inomata and Fukui reported independent peptide synthesis with chromatographic product characterization. That evidence does not independently establish all stereocentres. The stated parent has eleven specified stereocentres, including the residue-5 side-chain centre. The proline and hydroorotyl rings are within their units; neither is an inter-residue closure.

  • D configuration at residues 1, 2, 3, 6 and 10
  • Residue-5 para-amino acylation with L-hydroorotyl, including its 4S stereocentre
  • Residue-6 para-amino carbamoylation
  • Residue-8 N6-isopropyl substitution

Terminal features: N-terminal acetylation, C-terminal amide.

Analytical considerations

The formula and 1632.286 Da average mass follow the parent structure using CIAAW 2024 abridged atomic weights. The neutral monoisotopic calculation is a different mass convention. Counterion, hydrate, isotope-labelled and conjugated compositions are not transferred to the parent.

Cited studies by type

The one paper this record cites, counted by the kind of work each reports. A count is the size of this record's selection, not of the research that exists, and says nothing about results, safety, effectiveness or approval.

A paper can report more than one kind of work. Each count opens those papers in the bibliography. Compare every record on the Evidence Map.

Methodology & citation verification

Reference identity is checked against official PubMed metadata. Local deterministic receipts bind each normalized title and canonical metadata record to its verification date. Scientific values remain absent when an authoritative source has not been verified.
