Compound monograph
DSIP
DSIP is a synthetic nonapeptide, Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, first isolated and sequenced in 1978.
01
Identity & nomenclature
DSIP is a synthetic nonapeptide, Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, first isolated and sequenced in 1978.
The name records the context in which the peptide was originally isolated and does not describe a verified property of the material. The peptide was isolated from the extracorporeal dialysate of cerebral venous blood in rabbits and named at that time. A molecular weight of 849 is reported in the source literature, consistent with the PubChem record.
Canonical name: Delta sleep-inducing peptide.
Declared aliases and development codes: DSIP, Delta-sleep-inducing peptide.

Nonapeptide Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, determined by amino acid analysis and sequence determination in the original isolation report.
03
Structural characteristics
The original report describes synthesis of the nonapeptide together with five possible metabolic fragments, two nonapeptide analogues with one and two amino acid exchanges, and a related tripeptide. It records that the aspartyl residue at position 5 must be in the alpha-aspartyl form: the report states that only the pure alpha-aspartyl peptide showed the described activity, in contrast to its beta-Asp isomer.
Terminal features: Free N-terminus, Free C-terminal carboxyl.

05
Analytical considerations
The alpha-aspartyl versus beta-aspartyl distinction at position 5 is an identity consideration, not merely a synthesis detail: the two isomers share a molecular formula and mass, so mass spectrometry alone does not distinguish them and a sequence- or separation-based method is required. The single tryptophan residue provides a UV chromophore near 280 nm.
What the studies reported
Each finding describes one cited study in its stated model. These observations are specific to that study and do not establish effects in other settings.
Animal studies
Rabbit neocortex and limbic cortex
Schoenenberger et al. reported a mean 35% increase in EEG delta activity in the neocortex and limbic cortex of rabbits receiving synthetic DSIP compared with control rabbits receiving a CSF-like solution.

Verified bibliography
Cited studies by type
The 2 papers this record cites, counted by the kind of work each reports. A count is the size of this record's selection, not of the research that exists, and says nothing about results, safety, effectiveness or approval.
A paper can report more than one kind of work. Each count opens those papers in the bibliography. Compare every record on the Evidence Map.

Methodology & citation verification
Reference identity is checked against official PubMed metadata. Local deterministic receipts bind each normalized title and canonical metadata record to its verification date. Scientific values remain absent when an authoritative source has not been verified.
